Bridging gap for LGBTQIA+ Aboriginal and Torres Strait young people
Currently, there is a lack of LGBTQA+ inclusive practice resources and training for ACCOs addressing the intersection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and LGBTQA+ identities.
The Needs Assessment Report is the first phase of the ‘Training Health Providers to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTQA+ Young People’ research project – which aims to co-design culturally appropriate LGBTQA+ inclusive practice training in collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTQA+ young people and ACCO staff.
The Needs Assessment phase gathered vital insights into current ACCO practices and training needs for the inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTQA+ young people. The next phases (phase two is underway) will focus on co-designing and implementing a 'train-the-trainer' package tailored for ACCOs.
