For Young People

ARE YOU AN ABORIGINAL AND/OR TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER LGBTQA+ YOUNG PERSON? IF SO, WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

As you may have experienced, few services that are supposed to help young people know much about supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander LGBTQA+ young people (14-25 years).

This research project aims to understand your experiences, mental health, strength and resilience, so that we can help your local mental health and social support services meet your needs. Now is the chance to have your say about what would support your wellbeing.

Walkern Katatdjin is led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTQA+ researchers, Aboriginal researchers, and LGBTQA+ researchers. Meet the team!

Who are we looking for?

Anyone who is…

  • 14-25 years old (you do not need a parent/guardian's permission to take part)

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander AND

  • LGBTQA+ (you do not have to be ‘out’)

  • Based in Perth or Greater Western Sydney*

*if you live remotely, we can have a chat about how you can take part.

How can I have my say and take part?

You can take part in 2 different ways:

  • Come along to a yarning circle held in Perth or Greater Western Sydney. The circle will be with   other young Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander LGBTQA+ people

OR

  • Have a 1-1 interview with one of our researchers (if you prefer not to be in a group)

Is this research safe?

Your safety and wellness is important to us. Check out our Participant Study Information Letter page to read about what steps we take to help keep participants safe. This study has approval from the Western Australian Aboriginal Health Ethics Committee and NSW Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council.

What’s in it for you?
